How we use it, and why we’re allowed to
Data protection law says we must have a lawful reason, called a “lawful basis”, for each way we use your information.
| What we do | Our lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Respond to job enquiries and consider your CV for roles at WellCare | Legitimate interests, and steps you ask us to take before a job offer |
| Reply to your enquiry and talk to you about fostering | Legitimate interests: answering people who contact us, and taking steps you ask for before you apply |
| Send you fostering information, newsletters or event invitations | Consent: you can withdraw it at any time |
| Keep a record of enquiries to improve how we recruit and support carers | Legitimate interests |
| Act on a concern that a child may be at risk | Legal obligation, and substantial public interest (safeguarding children) |
| Keep the website working and secure | Legitimate interests |
| Show Google Maps on our Contact page | Consent, given through our cookie settings |
| Meet our legal and regulatory duties, including to Ofsted | Legal obligation |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have balanced our interests against your rights. You can ask us about this balance.
How long we keep it
We keep your information only for as long as we need it:
| Information | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Enquiries that don’t go on to an application | 1 year from your last contact, then deleted |
| CVs and job enquiries | 6 months after we last contact you, unless you agree we can keep your CV on file for longer |
| Mailing list details | Until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you |
| Website logs | See our cookies policy |
If you apply to foster, your records are kept for the periods set out in fostering regulations, as explained in the separate privacy notice you will receive.
Keeping it secure
We use technical and practical measures to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. These include secure systems, access only for staff who need it, and staff training on confidentiality and data protection.
If something goes wrong, we will act quickly. Where the law requires it, we will tell the ICO and anyone affected.
